The Mossy Bench

It’s beautiful! But does it tell a story?

I’ve arrived at the thick forested ridge in the PNW where my first daughter lives and I’m here for the summer! Her hubby, kids, and friendly golden-doodle Winston live here also. Every human is generally healthy, happy, and busy working on life, chores, sports, and plans. No one is sitting it out, though one of them does need encouragement to risk some next steps. Yes, I’m a meddling Gpa.

The moss-covered bench rests in a grassy hollow where I’m parking the van between quick trips to the grocer, exploring the countryside, hitting the gym for easy stretch, taxiing the youngest to b-ball practice at the Y, attending a weekly fellowship of the faithful, meeting believers for breakfast, and leading Taco Tuesday Discussions for a small group of Christian men. So, I’m not sitting out life either. Although, I’ve been staying up late and sleeping in some.

Van life? It’s good! Floors need mopping. Ought to reorganize the gear, like Spring Cleaning. I’ve added three mini potted plants (succulents) to the dashboard, more pleasant than an open junk bin. Am I on the path to becoming a hippy rig? Hahaha. I won’t paint yellow daisies around the headlights, but I have let my hair grow long like the 70’s. Daughter said my gray menstail looks hip.

Other van-life stuff: I’ve ordered a mechanical (lever press) espresso machine! Kinda excited about that.

And then there are minor items to fix (zipper on rear bug screen) and adjust (cab curtains) for convenience. Up-to-date on all the maintenance like fluids, filters, rotations, etc. Mileage is at 34K and I’m watching the tire treads thin out. So, plan is to upgrade with all terrain tires soonish. And a better sound system would be nice with some FLAC Files full of real (70’s) music.

On the author front there is scant news but here you go. No best sellers yet, hahahaha.

No one at the fellowship has read the book set I left last fall. On the other hand, the guy that “got it” last year is not disappointed or disillusioned. He has found great value in application of The Principles and The Keys though he has only “skimmed and read a little here and there.” Our lunch discussion sessions were where he put the pieces together.

Now the fellowship leader is maybe just beginning to catch on also as I continue to suggest connections and make illustrations in various discussions. Hahaha can’t shut me up, but I think his wife rolled her eyes last time I put these ideas forward. Plant and pray, plant and pray, that’s my mantra.

My daughter didn’t read them either! But she has very good excuses and suggests an audio-book.

Taco Tuesday is mine to lead for the summer and I chose The Gospel for a subject so maybe that will get me into some productive writing on the last book from me.

Back in Las Vegas my best student “Grasshopper” has succeeded in promoting both the principles and keys such that they are showing up in the group’s fledgling purpose statement. I did leave them books also. Grasshopper has read and discussed with me all the books.

The brother who moved to Florida has also held onto the concepts and applications he received from reading and likewise discussing the material with me.

Discussion seems important. Same goes for some past brothers in Christ.

Online, many have at least heard the subjects as I share them.

So back to the bench, not to sit on it, but to consider its message to me, which is – Keep At It.

Does the mossy bench say any message to you?
