This is Mount Charleston as seen from the Pahrump side of the Spring Mountain Range which runs along the west-ish side of the Las Vegas valley. You can spot this peak from Vegas too, but I say this view is far more impressive – the other side. And now you know where I am, playing security guard at my best friend’s place while he’s RVing. Thank God for friends, I needed to get out of sin city, no breeze – the smog had settled in. I am fully addicted to the fresh air of van life.
So, the other side can represent any minor escape, or overcoming, or growth, or even accomplishment. Whatever you like. My younger daughter just celebrated 1,000 days of sobriety, a victory, and a reality that calms my old heart. Because this side – the other side of her challenge – looks like hope, wholeness, and a future.
Recalling my many other sides and so far, each one made a better me – a more focused and imperfect believer in Christ. I’d like to extend this trend. Right now, I’m on the other side of standing up my whatever this is, sharing four underappreciated dialogues, very good books, edifying emails, and a digital platform (just repaired after a hack!) with more content coming. This is my believer track, my Johnny Appleseed van life. I like this side of it, but I know there are many other sides ahead. That’s kinda complicated but I am trusting that my Savior called me.
Every other side has complications. For example, you’d have to make the long drive out to Pahrump from Las Vegas to enjoy this better view, then gas up, find lunch, and bring the stunning vision back to Vegas friends. But … your best other side might just be found through what I’m sharing – The Four Dialogues of Campfire Wisdom. Circling back to the young men I’ve been mentoring thru Campfire Wisdom, and I can report that all is bright. They are coming out the other side as better followers of Christ. I have them both doing the teach it back to me technique. That’s a lot of fun!
